Why Made of stone?

I knew I wanted to kick off Tor with a collection that was somehow related to the name. A tor is a large free-standing rocky outcrop that sticks up sharply from the top or side of a hill.

We have a lot of Tors in Derbyshire, Tor, Stone, Statues, Art. It all came together and I just ended up designing a collection that combines all of that. Taking statues and adding my own spin to them.

That’s the Made of Stone Collection.

The Designs

This design is why we have the Made of Stone Collection. It wasn’t the first design I did but it is the one that bought the collection together.

I loved the idea of a strong male sculpture with a feminine touch. Originally I only had the idea of the red line as I had used a similar design on a poster but it felt like it needed something else.

The flower brought the whole piece together and solidified this collection.

In The Dark

I’ll be honest I have no idea what this sculpture is but I love it! The pose is incredible and evokes a lot of emotion in such a simple pose.

The only thing I did was darken the image and add a bit of texture to it to make it feel that little bit more distressed.

Red King

Most of these designs are made for the back of the tee but this one is just for the front. I knew I wanted something that would look great on a white tee base.

So the Red King was born. I took the original image and duotone it to red and white added a bit more texture and the collection name. You would not believe how long it took to decide on the font!

The Designs

Fallen Angel

Maybe more of a sitting one but fallen sounds better. This was a fun one to design, I started with the image of the statue and duotone it to pink and black.

I then added the frame to it as I felt like I wanted the wings to seem 3d and then it needed something else. That’s when the big pink squiggle happened.

Took a unreasonable amount of time on Procreate to make something so simple but it needed to be right and I’m pretty pleased with how it came out.

Heracles

Heracles or Hercules (it’s up to you) is one of my favourite stories. I love history (will probably have a collection at some point!) and I love Ancient Greece.

Heracles and his labours are a staple of the Ancient Greek world and I wanted to honour it.

The colourful background was made on Procreate, I was messing about and then came up with something I really liked. It wasn’t meant for this but when I tried it I loved it!

It’s a classic, The Thinker. What an amazing statue and although technically it’s made from bronze the base is stone so let me have it.

I wanted this one to be the busiest one I did. I added multiple elements to it and took away some, it was a fun challenge to decide when it was too many.
